Sean & Anne Murray | Southeast Texas Wedding Photographers

I’ll tell you a not so secret. Wedding days are a LOT of work. Our typical wedding day is 8 hours of shooting, never mind any travel and prep leading up to the actual event. Now, we love them all of course, but there are some wedding days that stick out to us and go by really fast because they are F-U-N. I’ve been itching to share about Sean and Anne’s wedding because it was just so…cool.

Lets start with Church – First United Methodist.

This place is sooo nice. Lots of natural light, massive stained glass windows, epic high ceilings, you name it, it fits the bill for an awesome church venue. The steeple is so massive we had to drive a few blocks away to get a proper shot:

So then I (Kyle) meet Sean for the first time and the first thing he does is hop over to the first piano he sees and proceeds to jam. (I totally used ‘first’ three times in one sentence) Now, I graduated a music major in college. I’ve played with and been around a lot of really good musicians in my day and let me tell you, Sean can play. This guy has some wicked keyboard chops and I had to remind myself to keep shooting photography because I was tempted to sit back and listen to good music (I had that problem a lot this day as you will see…).

We love when we have couples do a ‘first look.’ Kimberly and I had that moment before our actual ceremony so I’ll try and advocate it every time. Sean and Anne did theirs alone…like without a photographer or anyone around. Grrrr…But Kimberly is pretty sneaky so she peeked through in the little chapel and caught the moment. Ha! (Don’t worry they caught her peeking and laughed)

After a special ceremony we went off to Lamar University on the top floor of the Mary & John Gray Library. They had the place looking NICE. Oh, and by the way they had the local band Jazz Innovators out for the evening. This is where it got reeeallly fun. I had never heard this group before (Kimberly had), but when they started the first set of the night I was floored. They play a great mix of new and old school and they really know how to groove. These guys are seriously so so good. Remember how I said Sean was a musician? Well he’s pacing around most of the night and I can see it on his face he wanted to jump in and play so bad. Well FINALLY late in the evening I see him walk up behind the keyboard player and I can guess what is about to unfold. Sean is quickly memorizing the chord progression and within a few moments he has it down. He trades places with the keyboard player mid-song, mind you and proceeds to rip a hole in the universe with a solo. The great thing was, the band had no idea that the GROOM was a great musician. I was watching the lead singer and when I pointed to Sean he turned and looked and I watched the jaw drop. By far one of the coolest moments I’ve seen at a wedding.

Have a look at all the awesome!
