Here we are at another ending. For high school seniors this is a time filled with nerves, excitement and a hefty dose of some sadness and nostalgia. It isn’t often that we get a defined open and close to a chapter in life, but graduation is definitely one of those moments. As photographers we live in that arena. We are most frequently booked for the big changes; weddings, births, and new beginnings for students leaving the old and stepping in to what is usually considered the gateway to adulthood. Taking senior photos is a marker for who you are at the time this chapter ends and another begins. Photos are a reflection of your style, your mannerisms, and highlight the personality of who you are. That snapshot is fun to see immediately, but like many things that are of great value, the images become more precious with time.

One such beautiful person we know is bursting with excitement for the newness of this time is Michaela. We were looking forward to doing her photos for a long time and earlier in the spring, before this heat wave and yucky humidity hit us we took advantage of a beautiful day over at Broussard Farms just a short hop down the road in Fannett, Texas. Michaela is graduating this year from Vidor High School. She has plans to go on to study for her pharmacy tech license.

Being a photographer in Southeast Texas, may not give us large mountains or giant waterfalls to photograph, but we do have a southern charm that is totally unique to this area. Our landscape offers great open fields, beautiful wild flowers and majestic oak trees. Broussard Farms incorporates these qualities in a comfy little area that we have always loved. We’ve worked here for many portrait sessions and weddings and the place never disappoints. Plus there are some really sweet people who run the venue. Michaela looked stunning of course and the light was bright, but not too harsh. My favorite!

When seniors find a way to incorporate something creative and personal into their session it is pretty much the best thing ever. Michaela wanted to show off her Cherokee heritage with a headdress that she pulled off in an awesome way. We also found a really nice location just after sunset with a small patch of bluebonnets and other wild flowers, which seemed the perfect setting for that piece of creative flair.

What a joy it was to work with Michaela! We wish her all the best for her future. Congratulations!
