Ah Summer time. That time of year where we have to literally pre-heat our lenses so that when we run outside for the grand exit the glass wont fog up and become totally useless. My goodness have we fallen in to an awful habit of not blogging. I’ll be honest, it is so simple to share images on Social Media and walk away. The problem being, images never quite show well on those platforms because of all the compression that they use to save space. Plus, here we can really delve in to our favorite moments, and show them in a way that tells a story.
We learned long ago to throw out expectations of how the flow of a wedding will go. Every time we try to set our mindset to getting images in a certain way, we only stumble over ourselves. The very best weddings that have the VERY best photos are
- Organized and planned, but flexible
- Not overly saturated with ideal shot lists
- And where couples are content to enjoy their day as it happens, with great people around them.
A fairy tale wedding has little to do with how all the elements come together, and is always about the people. We have seen big, dynamic, beautiful weddings where everyone is stressed to the max, and you wonder at what point was the day truly enjoyable. Conversely, some of the simplest backyard weddings are filled with laughs and joy without so much as a true sit down meal. No matter the scope of a wedding, once it arrives, ENJOY IT. Surround yourself with positive family and friends and let the day go. It won’t all run exactly how it was scheduled, but it will be amazing because you are getting married. How did I get on this soap box?
We had an incredible wedding weekend with Alicia and Joey a couple of weeks ago. So much so, that despite cramming in our to-do list before our family vacation, we made sure to pull some favorites to share once we got back. Vacation was great by the way. At this time in our life getting away is as much about being away from our home office as it is actually enjoying a new place. We had lots of ‘fun in the sun’ days at water parks, and out in the beautiful clear water of Canyon Lake. One of the favorite days was Tuesday where it rained us in. It didn’t stop us from grabbing good BBQ, and drinking coffee out on the deck. Days like that are an escape from the Summer heat and a welcome change of pace. Our kind of getaway for sure!
Now, the wedding! We love shooting at The Brown Estate in Orange. The best part of course was the genuine love that these two have for each other. It is always an inspiration in our work, and makes out job hardly seem like work at all. Alicia and Joey are also huge Marvel nerds, which is right up our alley. Finally, we love The Brown Estate for all of the beautiful window light. We have always been the kind of photographers who love interesting and dynamic light to paint our subjects on a canvas of shadow. Rain also made a short appearance (cue insane humidity) but sometimes the right mix of cloud cover with the sun peaking through creates some spectacular light as well. Now you have our formula for wedding photography. Great people + Great light. That is all there is to it! I hope you can get a feel for how special this day really was.
