What is it about this place? The Texas Hill Country doesn’t have the biggest mountains, it is not the most exotic, or colorful place, but there is something there that is undeniably beautiful. I have always thought of this place as the heart of Texas. When you step out of the car after a long drive you instantly smell the cedar and mesquite trees, you feel the air has a character like no other place. To me, the Hill Country is a second home, a place that fills me with nostalgia every occasion I’m lucky enough to visit. Growing up my family went regularly to a lease just outside of Llano. Going to Llano was about the best thing I could hope for every year, and to this day I still have vivid memories of waking up to see the sun shining on Cedar mountain. I remember the sight of Enchanted Rock from high in our tower stand, glowing pink as the morning light just crept over the mountain behind us in cold December, or the long drives on dirt roads in Summer, stopping to sit in Sandy Creek when the day grew too hot. When Kimberly and I were married in 2010 we decided to spend our honeymoon out in Wimberley, where we made some great memories of zip-lining, eating great food, and simply enjoying the peace of being away. Even now, as I’ve discovered new hobbies in smoking bbq, the Hill Country offers new places to enjoy as I get my hipster foodie self around looking for the best pit masters.
So. When Trista and Jacob asked us to shoot their wedding in Wimberley, there was pretty much nothing that could stop us from making it happen. These two were a total blast to work with, and we have lots of old connections with them through the Beaumont Fire Department that made this extra special. We drove up two nights before the wedding to make sure we would get plenty of rest (Kimberly was kind of sick at the time…yuck) and to have at least one full day of enjoying our time away from the hustle, bustle, and chaos (see *kids*) of daily life. Funny enough we had previously reserved a small getaway weekend in Wimberley which was properly ruined by Harvey hitting SETX. Luckily, we were able to move our reservation to the wedding weekend so it all worked out!
The wedding was held at a high scenic venue called “The Rustic Ranch” which has every element you could want in a dream wedding. I’ve said before that as a photojournalist we are only as good as our subjects, and we are so thankful that we were a part of this wedding. From their genuine joy spending time with friends, to the emotional ceremony (watch for Jacob as Trista comes down the aisle!), to the vibrant and fun reception we were in motion all day into the night capturing many unforgettable moments. We were also only ten minutes away in our little cabin, so the whole experience was really one of our favorite wedding trips in all of our years in photography. Sooo future brides…we’re totally happy to make the ‘sacrifice’ of driving out to the Hill Country again. This one is packed full of images, as narrowing these down was near impossible. Enjoy!
